You will learn in Dog First Aid/CPR
Normal physical condition, behaviors, habits, normal heart rate, body temperature, safely approach an ill or injured dog, safely muzzle, determine if a dog is experiencing a life-threatening emergency by checking a dog's airway, breathing and circulation (ABC's), care for a dog that is having a breathing emergency, perform CPR, care for shock, provide basic wound care, control bleeding, provide care with a muscle, bone or joint injury, care for a dog involved in a car accident, care for a dog with a sudden illness, care for a dog suffering from heat or cold related emergency, name the items that belong in a first aid kit, name the appropriate pet supplies that should be included in an emergency supply kit, and what should be considered when making a plan for your dog in the event of a disaster that requires emergency vacuation.


You will learn in Cat First Aid/CPR
Normal physical condition, behaviors, habits, normal heart heart rate, body temperature, how to safely approach an ill or injured cat, how to safely capture and restrain a cat, how to check for breathing and cardiac emergencies, how to give rescue breathing, how to perform CPR, how to care for a cat that is choking, how to care for shock, how to provide basic wound care, control bleeding, care for a suspected fracture, how to care for a suspected back or neck injury, how to care for a burn, sudden illness, seizures, poisioning, heat or cold related emergency, name the items that belong in a pet first aid kit, name the appropriate pet supplies that should be included in an emergency preparedness kit, and what should be considered when making a plan for your cat in the event of a disaster that requires emergency evacuation.

The presentation combines lecture, video and skill practice. The course will include a book, DVD, brochure and several worksheets. Length of class is 2 hours and 30 minutes. A certificate of completion will be handed out at the end of class. There are no prerequisites for enrolling. The presentation does not teach participants how to diagnose medical conditions or make recommendations for medications.
