Living with a disability
A disability can totally change your life. Sometimes it comes slowly, diagnosis is at a young age and it is progressive.
For others, it happens with no events leading up to it. You may lose everything that once was; where you lived, where you worked, your friends, your way of life, all may be changed. Depression may set in, and counseling may be needed.
Equipment may now be needed, as well as assistance from family. There may be walking devices or a form of transportation, your legs may no longer work. Perhaps it is your arms, back, or head. Starting life over; shelter, food, money and public agencies may be in order to begin again. Bills pile up and crediters call demanding money past due. The beginnings and monitering of one's body is in order, finding what your limitations are for work, and what you may be able to do are now life's goals. Maybe it is time to go back to your passion, something that you love and that your body is able to do with a few modifications may be the goal to achieve. Making an appointment with Vocational Rehabilitation may give you some ideas and supports to start over again. Family members may be of assistance for shelter, food, and education to provide a base of starting the road to self sufficency once again.
